You can read 5 books on increasing your productivity and achieve exactly the opposite: namely, nothing. Reading a book means you're not starting a project. Productivity equals zero.
Yes, I know: 'But reading is important for further education and stuff, blah blah blah.' Yes, absolutely. It’s great. But if you want to accomplish something, then create! If you want to go somewhere, then damn it: get moving! Don't just read a book about the different paths you could take and where you might find a shortcut. Just get going!
Consumption is so sweet, and every one of us knows that the sweetest sugar can be found in social media apps. Pure consumption, if you will. Even though every other person has long lost control over it, the moderately controlled observer is well aware of the dose of poison. Hey, we all know we should avoid that crap.
If only we all spent half as much time creating things as we do consuming, then all problems would be solved.
Yes, sharply put, but try the experiment yourself and start producing results.
A few weeks ago, I decided not to just consume LinkedIn, but to write posts and comments every day myself. No bullshit, but about topics that really interest me. It works.
Now it's your turn: create! Just make sure to create what you feel like creating. On LinkedIn, that’s often a trap. The temptation is there to produce stuff just for reach. This turns creativity into work, and anything that becomes work is quickly annoying.
I like to write, man: I even love it. And LinkedIn is perfect for that. Better actually than this website, because LinkedIn comes with an audience. I don't have to painstakingly build it myself by standing at the roadside like a Jehovah's Witness convincing people to visit my website.
LinkedIn is the shortest path to writing for me. Open the website, click on the posting box, and start typing. Instant feedback included. Within minutes, I know if I've hit a nerve or not. If yes: awesome, if not, then not. Ultimately, with writing as with everything else: focus on what you put in, not what comes out. Because you have little influence on that.
So do me a favor and stop reading this nonsense. Do something meaningful and start the project you've always wanted to do.
