How to Master Your Life

Small rules you can try today.

12

Be where you are

Thinking about work at dinner, about the weekend at work: that way you're never really anywhere. What you're doing right now is the only thing you can actually do.

TodayEat one meal today without a screen and taste what you're eating.

11

Draw your own path

Your future is made of many small decisions, including the ones you don't make. If you don't decide for yourself, circumstances decide for you.

TodayMake one decision consciously today that you would otherwise just let slide.

10

First ask what you can remove

We usually solve problems by adding something: a tool, a rule, a meeting. Often the better solution is to take something away.

TodayBefore you start something new today, cross off one thing you can leave out instead.

09

Clear the chaos around you

Everything lying around pulls away a little attention, even if you don't notice it. A tidy desk won't empty your head, but it makes it quieter.

TodaySpend five minutes clearing the surface you work on. Just that one.

08

Create opportunities instead of waiting for them

Opportunities show up where you have points of contact: people who know you, things you show, questions you ask. Every new point is a place where chance can latch on.

TodayShow something you're working on today, even if it isn't finished yet.

07

Look for the good, it doesn't shout

Problems push themselves to the front, the good stuff stands quietly in the corner. If you don't look for it on purpose, all you see is what's missing.

TodayTonight, write down three things that went well. Small ones count.

06

Create more than you consume

An hour of scrolling leaves nothing behind. An hour of building, writing or cooking leaves something, even if it turns out crooked.

TodaySwap one hour of screen time for one hour of making something today.

05

Make it small enough to fail

If you plan everything perfectly, you start late. A small experiment is allowed to go wrong and still teaches you something.

TodayStart something in its smallest version, one you can finish within an hour.

To be continued

New cards will come once I have tried something new myself.
